New eviction moratorium
The CDC has issued a new order temporarily halting evictions in areas with higher levels of COVID-19, which includes Cook County. This eviction moratorium on evictions remains in effect through Sunday, Oct. 3. The Illinois Department of Human Services has launched a site, evictionhelpillinois.org, to connect tenants and landlords with free legal aid regarding eviction issues. There is also still rental aid available through IDHS. More information is available by calling (855) 631-0811 or texting (844) 938-4280.
Pedestrian improvements at Dundee & Sanders
New intersection improvements at Dundee and Sanders roads are ready. After a request from a resident, the village started a project to provide access to cross all four legs of the intersection, ensuring pedestrians could safely navigate the area. The intersection is now fully accessible for pedestrians with new push buttons and signal heads, crosswalks, and accessible ramps.
West Nile Virus-positive mosquitoes found in village
The North Shore Mosquito Abatement District has found the first West Nile virus-positive mosquitoes in their Northbrook traps this year. The risk of being infected with West Nile virus is moderate at this time, so the district recommends taking measures to minimize mosquito bites and breeding. Some personal protection measures include using an EPA registered insect repellent, wearing loose-fitting clothing, and avoiding peak mosquito feeding times during the hours around dawn and dusk. Residents are urged to examine their property and eliminate any items that can hold water, particularly smaller items that may be easily overlooked. Remember: if it can hold water, it can breed mosquitoes! Visit nsmad.com.
Waste Management update
The village recently has received an increase in customer service complaints about Waste Management - formerly Advanced Disposal - services. Staff members are working with Waste Management to resolve the issues residents have been reporting. Waste Management is experiencing a shortage of both drivers and call center representatives throughout the Midwest region, causing issues like long call center delays and missed pickups. In order to solve these issues, Waste Management is conducting a robust hiring campaign.
In the meantime, Waste Management has created an interactive website and customer service portal that allows customers to manage their account, make requests, chat with a representative, and even track when their trash will be picked up. Visit WM.com to learn more. Waste Management acquired Advanced Disposal, the village's former refuse and recycling service provider, in November 2020.
