White Sox's injured Grandal 'getting closer' to rehab assignment
While Seby Zavala and Zack Collins continue holding down the fort, No. 1 catcher Yasmani Grandal is making strides to rejoin the Sox's roster.
Grandal tore a tendon in his left knee on July 5, had surgery and was ruled out 4-6 weeks.
He looked good running the bases before Saturday's game vs. the Cubs and appears to be nearing a rehab assignment.
"It's been discussed," manager Tony La Russa said. "I think they're still waiting, there's some tests, the actual movements, then see how he recovers. The big thing is he's improving and he's getting closer. We talked about it but it still depends on every time he does something, how he comes back from it."
Collins flied to deep right and lined out hard to second base in his final 2 trips to the plate Saturday, but he's hitless in his last 14 at-bats and a 2-for-36 slump has dropped his batting average to .197.
