OF Goodwin continues to make most of opportunity with Sox

After setting a franchise record with 5 RBI in his first game with the White Sox on June 11, Brian Goodwin has cooled off as expected.

The 30-year-old veteran has not disappeared, and he helped the Sox keep winning game during a stretch in the first half of the season when five outfielders were on the injured list.

It remains to be seen how much of an impact Goodwin will make in the second half, but he made a nice diving catch on a Nelson Cruz line drive in the seventh inning Tuesday night to protect the White Sox's 4-3 lead over the Twins.

Goodwin also has 3 home runs and 10 RBI over his last 15 games and has been a great addition by the Sox since signing in early May, two days after being released by the Pirates.

"I watched a lot of video of him in 2019 and he had an outstanding year with the Angels," Sox manager Tony La Russa said. "And all of a sudden he's available and you think of the pressure he's under to do good enough to get the call to come here. We've all been impressed with how much he's been able to concentrate, just doing the job, not putting too much on himself. He's just been outstanding for us, I give him a lot of credit."
