Literacy volunteers can help transform lives and strengthen communities

Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley will host a free tutor training workshop from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Aug. 17, 19, 24, and 26 at Pottawatomie Community Center, 8 North Ave. in St. Charles.

Attendance will be limited to allow for social distancing.

Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley helps adults read, write, speak, and understand English by matching them with trained volunteer tutors who provide in-person or virtual lessons once each week at a time that is convenient for both.

If you know English, you can teach English to a Fox Valley resident who needs to learn. Volunteers do not need teaching experience to be successful.

The program provides material and instruction so anyone can help.

These volunteer tutors are making a very real difference in the lives of adults who want to learn English.

If you can help, visit www.lvfv.org to register or call/text (630) 584-4428.

Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley, established in 1986, serves adult students who live or work in the communities of St. Charles, Batavia, Geneva, Elburn, Campton Hills, LaFox, Lily Lake, Wasco and Wayne.

Its mission is to help individuals in the region acquire the literacy skills that they need to function more effectively in contemporary society.

Through trained volunteers, staff and the generosity of many supporters, Literacy Volunteers offered one-to-one tutoring focusing on reading, writing, speaking and understanding in English.
