Glenview in 60 seconds
Glenview Garden Walk
Three gardens will be open to the public when the Glenview Gardeners host their annual garden walk from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 11. A fourth stop on the walk will be the Kennicott garden at The Grove, which the garden club has maintained for 10 years. Debbie's Garden, 2251 Glenview Road, features native plants to attract butterflies, as well as a vegetable garden and a gated secret garden. Visitors are asked to park on Roosevelt Street. Pam's Garden, 907 Glendale Road, showcases a cottage perennial garden with both sun and shade plants with a large number of hostas. John and Lynne's Garden, 1237 Longmeadow Drive, highlights green living with an extensive rain barrel system for watering, and a state-of-the art solar system. In addition, John tends beehives that aid in pollinating the gardens. The garden behind the Kennicott house at The Grove, 1421 Milwaukee Ave., includes roses and heirloom peonies descended from originals planted there. This year a butterfly garden is being planted next to the established garden. The walk is free, and the homeowners will be on hand to chat with visitors. Club members will also be at the Grove. IDOT work halted
The Village of Glenview noted that, due to conflicts with underground AT&T and Nicor Gas utilities, Illinois Department of Transportation work at Willow and Pfingsten roads has been suspended.
IDOT is expected to resume work in August, provided no further complications arise. The work is targeted to be done in November.
The improvements include dedicated eastbound and westbound right-turn lanes on Willow Road, improving sightlines for the left-turn lanes, applying a 4-foot, striped median between the left-turn lanes and adjacent through-lanes, widening the sidewalk on the south side of Willow Road, upgrading pedestrian crossings and replacing the traffic signal.
Commuter parking discounts
The village also is offering 2021 commuter parking permits at a temporarily discounted rate.
A 50% discount is being offered on permits for residents and others. The resident semiannual permit is $75, and $100 for others. These permits are valid through Dec. 31, 2021. Daily parking for $2 also remains.
Monthly permits are $12.50 for residents, $16.75 for nonresidents. For motorcycles, monthly permits are $4.25 for residents, $5.75 for nonresidents.
To purchase these permits online, visit glenview.il.us/Pages/PayOnline.aspx.
