Rotary Club of Aurora Sunrise awards $3,000 in scholarships to 3 students

The Rotary Club of Aurora Sunrise recently awarded three $1,000 scholarships to local students. Scholarships were awarded on academic achievement, community service, and an essay on how diversity and inclusion has shaped who they are and how it will affect them in the future.

The scholarship was open to East and West Aurora high school seniors who will be attending college or trade school this coming fall.

"Our club has been working to offer scholarships for some time and we are so happy to have put this together this year," said 2020-2021 Club President Joe Kosner. "We have already received funding through donations for 3 more scholarships next year."

The effort was spearheaded by Lewis Johnson, Diversity & Inclusion Committee Chair and 2021-22 club president, who said, "The recipients are really remarkable young ladies who have over come obstacles in their lives to succeed. The scholarship aligns with our club's mission and we are so grateful to be able to do more to help the youth of Aurora."

This years recipients are Carson Vest of West Aurora High School, and Stephanie Perez and Karla Pintor of East Aurora High School.

The Rotary Club of Aurora Sunrise meets at 7 a.m. Wednesdays at Mother's Pancake House Restaurant in Aurora.
