Lake Zurich woman pleads guilty to identity theft involving Mount Prospect couple
A Lake Zurich woman who prosecutors say used personal information from a Mount Prospect couple in their 60s to fraudulently obtain credit cards pleaded guilty Friday to aggravated identity theft.
Dorota Kozlowski, 50, was sentenced to two years probation and mental health treatment in exchange for her plea, court records show.
According to prosecutors, Kozlowski was hired by the couple to help them consolidate debt. In that capacity, she advised them not to open any mail from financial institutions and forward that mail to her, prosecutors said during Kozlowski's 2019 bond hearing.
Between July 2017 and December 2017, prosecutors say, Kozlowski used the couple's information to obtain at least seven credit cards from at least five financial institutions. Prosecutors said she used the credit cards to make purchases at a home furnishing store, a clothing store and other companies.
Kozlowski's purchases exceeded $12,000, authorities said.
