Huntley Area Lions is planning its first Helen Keller Day June 27

The Huntley Area Lions Club invites you to its first Helen Keller Day on Sunday, June 27. This family event will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Cole Pavilion in Deicke Park, 11419 Route 47 in Huntley.

Everyone is invited for this free event. Learn about the American disability rights advocate and author Helen Keller, and how she influenced the Lions Club to be "Knights of the Blind."

Watch Braille being written and get information on Horizons for the Blind in Crystal Lake. See your name written in Braille on a Helen Keller bookmark to take home. Practice writing Braille on sheets or decode sentences written in Braille. Attendees also can watch sign language demonstrations.

Meet a puppy raiser and the 3-month-old black Lab named "Boss," a Leader Dog puppy from Rockford. Or hear from a Sun City resident on her companion dog.

Free eye screenings will be offered for children.

Learn about Lions Club International and the services it provides, and meet Huntley Area Lions Club members to find out more about volunteering. Take pictures using the Lion and Lioness Photo-op Board and meet the mascot Lion.
