Carol Stream woman dies in head-on collision in Prospect Heights
A Carol Stream woman was killed and a man was taken to a hospital after a head-on collision Friday afternoon in Prospect Heights.
Marlene Hanks, 81, was taken to Lutheran General Hospital where she died from her injuries.
Prospect Heights police responding to the scene on the 3000 block of South Milwaukee Avenue about 2 p.m. found Hanks unconscious and in cardiac arrest. Firefighters freed Hanks, who was trapped in the front seat of a Honda, by lowering the seat and removing her through the back door, Prospect Heights Battalion Chief Scott Olsen said.
A preliminary investigation showed a Subaru heading north crossed into the southbound lanes and struck the Honda, police said. The man driving the Subaru was taken to Glenbrook Hospital for treatment of what firefighters said were minor injuries.
