Sox giving Burger a look at second base for Class AAA Charlotte

So far, Danny Mendick has done a solid job filling in for second baseman Nick Madrigal, who tore his right hamstring last week and is out for the season.

Leury Garcia can also play second, but the White Sox don't have much depth after that.

On Thursday night, Jake Burger played second base for the first time this season with Class AAA Charlotte.

A natural third baseman, Burger was the Sox's first-round draft pick in 2017. He's back after missing the 2018-19 seasons with a ruptured Achilles tendon and spending last summer playing in the CarShield Collegiate League in his native St. Louis.

"We want to see what he can do at second," Charlotte manager Wes Helms told reporters. "A lot of times this happens at lower levels but with him missing that time and then coming back this yer at Triple-A, we've got to do it here. He looks good at practice. We'll see how he does in games."

Burger homered again Thursday, his eighth in 32 games.
