Glenview in 60 seconds

That's huge

The Glenview Park Foundation, which typically donates a maximum of $10,000 to the Glenview Park District's Leisureship Fund, recently revealed in 2020 it instead provided $63,825.

Voting for this vast increase in order to support residents during the pandemic, the Glenview Park Foundation board's expenditure went to scholarships for families to participate in Leisureship programs they might not otherwise be able to afford.

Leisureship Fund dollars let families join activities like the Park District's Camp Rec program for students in kindergarten through eighth grade. In 2020 Camp Rec's child care and full-day program was a very valuable resource.

Formed in 1996, the Glenview Park Foundation has since raised more than $2.3 million through private and public donations, used on a variety of things in addition to the Leisureship Fund.

Two of its own fundraisers, the Firecracker Heritage Golf Classic and the Kick It Glenview 3-on-3 Soccer Fest, are going on this weekend. The Firecracker Classic on Friday at The Glen Club is sold out of tee times. The soccer tournament is Saturday at Gallery Park at Attea Middle School, 2500 Chestnut Ave.

Glenview Connect

Consultant firms Ricker/Cunningham and Callison RTKL delivered a draft of their "Economic Development Strategic Plan" to the Glenview Village Board at the regular meeting of the board on June 9. The 323-page document is intended as a guide toward optimization and development in five key areas of the village: The Glen Town Center, the downtown area and three commercial corridors, Waukegan Road, Milwaukee Avenue and Willow Road.

The Development and Downtown blueprints are available for viewing on the Glenview Connect website, www.glenviewconnect.com.

The next step will be an open house from 9-11 a.m. June 19 at the main lobby of the Glenview Park Center, 2400 Chestnut Ave. This is an in-person event. Attendees will be able to view exhibits from the plans and ask questions. People also may submit comments through the Glenview Connect website. The village board will begin its review of the formal draft plan at its July 6 meeting.

Reminder

The Village of Glenview sent residents of The Glen a Tax Increment Financing District Census earlier in June.

Information from the census determines how the village distributes "make whole" payments to school districts 30, 34 and 225, plus the library, the park district and the village itself while The Glen is under the TIF designation. Glen residents are asked to participate in this survey. If not via mail, The Glen TIF District survey is also available on the Glenview website at www.glenview.il.us.
