Bloomingdale Chamber businesses award scholarships to 12 local students
On June 9, the Bloomingdale Chamber of Commerce awarded scholarships to local students. Through the generosity of chamber members and a few fundraisers, 12 students received $1,000 scholarship money to use toward their secondary education.
The students' background and where they are headed vary, but they all had something in common besides the excellent grades, they also have given back to their community through volunteering. It was inspiring to learn about their accomplishments.
"This is my favorite event of the year. It's an honor and a privilege to be in the company of such outstanding young leaders," said donor Dr. Aimee Harris Newton of The Center of Functional and Integrative Health and Wellness who has been a donor for over 11 years now.
Mike Davison of Platt Hill Nursery also loves the event. "The best thing I ever did for Platt Hill Nursery was to put money toward the scholarships. The feeling of helping out a bright new mind from the community advance is priceless."
It is the businesses who deserve all the thanks. They funded the scholarships and believe in giving back to the community by investing in the future of these students.

The next fundraising event will be the annual Outback Scholarship Luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, July 15. Tickets are $30 and all proceeds from the lunch and raffles go to the Scholarship Fund. You can purchase your tickets online. The public is encouraged to attend to support the cause and participate in the raffle.
The chamber hosts monthly "Dine & Donate" fundraisers with member restaurants. You can view the list at www.BloomingdaleChamber.com or join the Bloomingdale Strong Facebook group.
Donations are accepted year around to support the program. You can contact the chamber to learn more at www.bloomingdalechamber.com/scholarship-program. Applicants must either live in Bloomingdale, work for a chamber business, or be a son or daughter of a chamber member. Applications are accepted in February and March.
The Bloomingdale Chamber of Commerce supports the success and growth of businesses and the community. Membership is open to any business who wants to invest in their own growth through promoting their business through marketing, sponsorships and building relationships. The chamber offers a variety of free and fee-based events making it possible for members to get involved.
