Waukegan police seek information in shooting death of Gurnee teen
Waukegan police are urging those who may have witnessed the deadly shooting of a young Gurnee man in the parking lot at Bowen Park early Sunday morning to come forward with information.
No one is in custody in connection with the shooting, though police said Monday morning that investigators believe 50 to 70 people were in the parking lot when it occurred.
The Lake County coroner's office identified the slain man as 18-year-old Ladarrius M. Cowart. He died from a gunshot wound to the head, according to preliminary autopsy results released by the coroner's office Monday.
Officers rushed to the park about 2:20 a.m. Sunday after receiving a 911 call that shots had been fired and someone had been shot, police said. When officers arrived, they found Cowart dead at the scene on the 1800 block of North Sheridan Road.
"We know there are witnesses to this crime," Police Chief Wayne Walles said in a statement Monday. "For this violence to stop, members of the community must come forward."
Anyone with information should call the department's investigations division at (847) 360-9001.
