Glenview in 60 seconds
Float on
According to the Glenview Park District's Kathleen McInnis, coordinator for Glenview's 2021 Independence Day "reverse parade," spots still remain for people to sign up to provide a "float" for the event, which will be held at noon Sunday, July 4. There will be maximum of 50 entries.
The floats and displays will gather at Community Park West, 1001 Zenith Drive, by 11 a.m. and be guided to the spot they'll stay at during the parade. Depending on the number of people who register to drive through the reverse parade, it'll last about two hours, from noon to 2 p.m.
The deadline to submit an application to join the float squadron is June 11. There are many guidelines to review, plus an application to fill out. To get involved, contact McInnis by email at kathleen.mcinnis@glenviewparks.org.
Let your fingers do the walking
Last we heard from Gretchen Conlon, she was working with Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church's "Diaper Drive" with one of the OLPH women's guilds. Just this week the entrepreneur opened an online business boutique based in Glenview, Maddie Amelia. Her goal is to provide quality items at affordable prices.
At www.maddieamelia.com, gift-seekers can buy clothes, stationary, jewelry, home decor, accessories. There's some fun men's socks pictured there, and dog toys, too. Contact information and details about future pop-up shops will also be available.
Loan closet reopens
The Glenview Senior Services loan closet is now open by appointment only. Glenview residents can borrow durable medical equipment free for three months. For details or an appointment, call (847) 904-4366. No donations are currently being accepted.
Sanders Road update
The Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways has put together a nice package about improvements to Sanders Road, between Milwaukee Avenue and Techny Road.
Construction is expected to begin in 2024 or 2025, depending on several factors. It's anticipated to continue for 12 to 18 months.

Hazardous waste event
The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and the Village of Glencoe are sponsoring a household hazardous waste disposal event by appointment only from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 12, at the Glencoe Southeast Metra Commuter Parking Lot, 290 Park Ave.
