Report: Offensive tackle Morgan Moses to visit with Bears this week

The Bears don't appear to be finished with the free agent market just yet.

Head coach Matt Nagy's team is reportedly hosting former Washington Football Team right tackle Morgan Moses on Wednesday. ESPN's Adam Schefter first reported the visit.

Moses has started 96 consecutive regular season games. Washington released Moses on May 20 after drafting Texas tackle Samuel Cosmi and signing former Bears tackle Charles Leno in free agency.

The Bears released Leno, a veteran left tackle with his own streak of 93 consecutive starts, in order to save room in the salary cap. Cutting Leno after June 1 saves the team approximately $9 million in cap room.

Moses, 30, has spent most of his career at right tackle. Currently the Bears appear to be looking at rookie Teven Jenkins as the left tackle and veteran Germain Ifedi as the right tackle. Ifedi took over right tackle duties for the final six regular season games in 2020 after starting 10 games at right guard.

It's possible the Bears could envision Moses as a starting right tackle. The Bears originally signed Ifedi last year to play guard, and the guard position could still be a better fit for Ifedi. Or they could envision Moses as some needed veteran experience with Jenkins on the left side, although neither Moses nor Jenkins has a ton of experience at left tackle.

There will be other suitors as well. Moses reportedly visited with the New York Jets last week.

The Bears kick off organized team activities (OTAs) on Tuesday, with Wednesday's practice open to the media.
