New Young Adult Book by 16-year-old author Ava Fumarolo

People Like Me ;) is a story that follows six teenagers that come from a variety of backgrounds. One night, they each decided to join the app People Like Me ;) to be put into a chat room to find people like them. It had been a year since their first interaction, and they decided it was time to meet face to face. The six teenagers that call themselves the misfits head out to sunny California for a weekend to escape their everyday lives and feel free for once. While in California everyone is looking for something in themselves that only others can bring out.

I am Ava Fumarolo, author of People Like Me ;), and I am from the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago. For my whole life I have loved storytelling, whether that be making mini movies or writing stories. I also enjoy playing sports, listening to music, and hanging out with friends and family. To you I may seem like an average teenager, and I am. But, that very idea of me being the most average teeneger sparked the idea for People Like Me :). Oftentimes I'll find myself wondering, what else is out there for me? The idea of having a whole world to explore just thrills me each time I think about it. Sometimes I think, what if I ran away? Now, in retrospect the idea of running away is always diminished by logic. I won't have money, and I won't have anywhere to go, and I'd miss my family too much. But, what if there was a way to escape your everyday life for a little bit and then return as if it was just a vacation? Well, that is exactly what People Like Me ;) is.

Each character, Paige, Kevin, Lucas, Cassiday, Taylor, and Bae, are inspired by stereotypical teenagers. Considering I am in the prime of my adolescence I know a thing or two about what it is actually like to be a teenager. From my own experiences, to stories I've heard, and my imagination, I brought six new teenagers anyone can find a way to relate to into the world. People Like Me ;) is a perfect way to either remember what it was like to be a teenager again, or to feel like the characters are your friends (or enemies).
