Cubs' Wisdom wiser after long, harsh road through minors

Patrick Wisdom belted 2 home runs for the Cubs on Monday against San Diego, and has 3 homers in the short time since he was called up from Triple A Iowa.

It wasn't that long ago Wisdom was a hot prospect for the Cardinals. In 2017, he hit 31 home runs for the Triple A Memphis Redbirds, then spent 32 games in the big leagues with St. Louis in 2018.

Not long after, he was gone. The Cardinals traded him to Texas, he spent most of 2019 in Triple A Nashville and was released. The Cubs picked him up last year after he was released by Seattle and sent him to their South Bend alternate site.

The Murrieta, California, native was a first-round bridge pick (No. 52 overall) of the Cardinals in 2012. It was a long, harsh road to get to his first multihomer game in the majors.

"I think it only made me stronger and better mentally," Wisdom said Monday. "Obviously, the more reps you get, the better you're going to be. I'm thankful for the road I've been on. It's been a long one and a tough one, but that makes me stronger in the end and I'm happy to be a part of this team. This is incredible."
