Free Environmental Fair Offers In-Person, Live-Streamed Activities
The Village of Schaumburg's Environmental Committee's Annual Conservation and Sustainability Fair is returning in 2021 with activities available both in-person as well as live-streamed for those who would like to participate from home.
The free event will take place from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 12, at Spring Valley Nature Center, located at 1111 E. Schaumburg Road.
Presentations and exhibits will show participants how to attract and create a haven for honeybees, mason bees, monarch butterflies, hummingbirds, and many other pollinators. Visitors will learn about the life cycle of honeybees and monarch butterflies and learn what they can do at home to preserve and protect these important insects.
There will also be a live-stream only presentation about beekeeping at Schaumburg's Community Bee Garden. Participants will hear from beekeepers about their experiences in the Bee Garden as well as highlights on their hives and honey production.
Community environmental organizations scheduled to participate include: GFWC Northwest Suburban Woman's Club, Hoffman Estates Garden Club, Hoffman Estates Sustainability Commission, Schaumburg Bicycle Club, Schaumburg Community Garden Club, Schaumburg Township District Library, University of Illinois Extension Master Gardeners, and the Village of Schaumburg's Environmental Committee.
The Environmental Fair is co-sponsored by the Village of Schaumburg's Environmental Committee, the Schaumburg Park District and the Schaumburg Township District Library.
