Bloomingdale seeking to fill seat on planning and zoning commission
The village of Bloomingdale is looking for a new planning and zoning commission member after Jim King stepped down from his position.
King, 80, was appointed to a three-year term on the commission in 2016, and his current term was set to expire in 2022.
His experience working in public service with Bloomingdale dates back 50 years, joining the planning and zoning commission in 1972, then being elected to a four-year term as village trustee in 1973.
"I really enjoyed my time in these roles in the village," King said. "It's been a great, interesting experience for sure."
King was on the planning and zoning commission and the village board during consideration of several large developments in the village, including the establishment of the Stratford Square Mall.
He previously worked in publishing and advertising for various magazines and news organizations, including the Chicago Tribune, Popular Science and The Wall Street Journal, retiring in 2013.
King said he recently asked Village President Franco Coladipietro to find someone to fill his seat on the village planning and zoning commission for the one year remaining on his term.
"Jim is a great guy who loves our community and has given much back to help shape Bloomingdale," village administrator Peter Scalera said.
The planning and zoning commission conducts public hearings and reviews requests for new commercial and residential development, making findings and recommendations to the village board, which makes the final decision.
