Glen Ellyn Historical Society honors veterans from Civil War, War of 1812, and Spanish-American War

On Tuesday, May 25, 15 volunteers from the Glen Ellyn Historical Society met at Forest Hill Cemetery in Glen Ellyn to place flags on the graves of the Civil War, War of 1812 and Spanish-American War veterans buried there.

The historical society has participated in this project since 2012 and their request for volunteers this year was very successful. Historical society president Suzanne Carty originally planned this project and she was very pleased with the Memorial Day Remembrance this year.

Glen Ellyn's annual Memorial Day ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, May 31, at Lake Ellyn.

Glen Ellyn American Legion Post 3's salute to veterans begins promptly at 11 a.m. A presentation of a memorial wreath will honor veteran heroes, both living and deceased. The memorial is on the east side of the lake and south of the boathouse, 645 Lenox Road, Glen Ellyn. For questions on the Memorial Day ceremony, contact Post Commander Mike Formento at mikeformento@outlook.com or (630) 546-1780.
