Memorial Day event set in Hoffman Estates, Schaumburg

The villages of Hoffman Estates and Schaumburg will hold a joint Memorial Day observance Monday, May 31.

The Hoffman Estates portion will begin at 10 a.m. at the Hoffman Estates Veterans Memorial site in front of the Hoffman Estates Police Department at 411 W. Higgins Road.

Immediately following the lowering of the flag in Hoffman Estates, the observance will move to Schaumburg for a 10:45 a.m. ceremony at the St. Peter Lutheran Church Cemetery, 202 E. Schaumburg Road in Schaumburg.

The observance will be an outdoor event only. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating on the grounds in Schaumburg. Participants are encouraged to wear a face mask and practice social distancing.

Rev. Jerry Hays, immediate past president of the Schaumburg AM Rotary Club, will serve as the master of ceremonies. Other participants include the Spring Valley Concert Band; The Legends Choral Ensemble; bagpiper Patrick Higgins; honor guards from the Schaumburg and Hoffman Estates public safety departments; American Legion Post 1983; VFW Post 2202; and volunteers from various Schaumburg and Hoffman Estates philanthropic organizations.
