2 accused of trying to steal Ferraris from Hinsdale dealerships

A 24-year-old man and a teenager have been charged with trying to steal expensive vehicles from two Hinsdale car dealerships, including a Ferrari convertible valued at more than $250,000.

Bail was set at $250,000 Tuesday morning for RaJohn Stewart, of the 100 block of Williamsburg Road in Country Club Hills, according to a news release from the DuPage County state's attorney's office. Stewart was released on $25,000 bond Tuesday afternoon and ordered to stay at home wearing a GPS monitor.

The juvenile, 16, is being detained until his next court date May 26.

Stewart and the juvenile are charged with felony aggravated unlawful possession of a stolen motor vehicle, burglary and attempted aggravated unlawful possession of a stolen motor vehicle. They are also charged with misdemeanor criminal damage to property.

The charges allege the duo also tried to steal a white 2017 Ferrari and a gray 2020 Ferrari.

According to authorities, a burglar alarm went off at 2:21 a.m. Monday at the Bill Jacobs Land Rover/Jaguar of Hinsdale dealership at 336 E. Ogden Ave. Police found a broken window in a garage door. While they were there, an alarm went off at Continental AutoSports Ferrari, 420 E. Ogden Ave.

At Continental, officers found a broken window and a running red 2018 Ferrari convertible in the rear parking lot, near the service bay.

Officers said they found a person, holding a crowbar, next to a padlock on the rear gate. The person ran to a nearby car, which had been stolen May 9 in Chicago, and fled.

Hinsdale police chased the car and disabled it; the news release did not say how.

Three people got out, including the juvenile, who police say had a gun in his hand.

Stewart and the juvenile were arrested, and police say they found a 9 mm pistol and a 30-round extended 9 mm ammunition magazine in the area. The third person in the car was not caught. Police also believe a fourth person was involved.

The news release said the juvenile has previous felony charges pending.

Stewart's next court date is June 4.
