First Muslim woman takes oath as a trustee of the village of Morton Grove

It was wonderful and historical an evening in the village of Morton Grove on Monday, May 10th, 2021 A Muslim woman wearing Hijab, Dr. Saba Khan took the oath of office and participated in her first meeting as a trustee.

Marking the first time in the village of Morton Grove's history the position of trustee simultaneously held by Muslim women.

Dr. Saba Khan took the oath of office at the Civic Center Morton Grove by Larry Suffredin alongside the Mayor of Morton Grove Dan DiMaria.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by relatives of the new trustee Dr. Khan along with members of the Pakistani, Indian, Muslim and Interfaith communities. The swearing-in ceremony was kept simple during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Dr. Khan said that During an Interview, "I am grateful to my friends and relatives who gave me congratulatory messages and best wishes for me. I thank all those who congratulated me on social media."

Dr. Saba Khan has been practicing the specialty of Periodontics and Dental Implantology for several decades.

Saba Khan, resident Morton Grove have been actively and positively contributing towards Muslim Community center Chicago for more than a decade. Currently, she serves as the chair of the Muslim Community Center Chicago Bylaws Committee and the MCC's Education Development Committee.

Dr. Khan received her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from the University of Detroit Mercy, School of Dentistry, and completed a three-year post-graduate residency program in Periodontics & Implant Dentistry at Indiana University School of Dentistry in 2005. She has obtained the highest recognition for a specialist in the field of Periodontology by becoming a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology & Dental Implants, a distinction held by less than one-third of practicing periodontists. She is also a published author in several peer reviewed journals including the Journal of Periodontology.

Dr. Khan living in Morton Grove for many years and married Mazhar Khan, who is currently serving as a board trustee in Morton Grove and an engineer by profession. Dr. Khan is a proud mother of Mubashir and Ibrahim. Both have been an active youth of the Morton Grove community as a social development volunteer.
