Mutual Ground to host 13th annual Walk for Hope

Mutual Ground invites you to support victims of domestic and sexual violence, and those struggling with substance use disorder, at the 13th annual Walk for Hope on Sunday, May 16.

This year, the walk will be a hybrid event for those who would like to participate virtually or in-person.

Anyone who signs up for the Walk for Hope at www.mutualground.org will be emailed a virtual presentation the morning of the walk and they can walk anywhere they please, on their own.

Alternatively, walkers can drop in anytime between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the Batavia Riverwalk, 140 First St.

There will be victim impact displays, giveaways, and a 1.3-mile walking route. The event is free of charge and family friendly, and walkers will be socially distanced with all safety precautions in place. Pledges can be raised by participating walkers, with anyone raising $50 or more getting a quality dry-fit "Walk for Hope" T-shirt.

"Walk for Hope" is one of Mutual Ground's largest fundraising events of the year. Every dollar raised helps Mutual Ground to empower individuals, families, and communities to eliminate domestic and sexual violence and the harms of substance use through education, awareness, and life-changing services.

"Although this year will be a bit different, we are thrilled to have this event in 2021 and have people walk in solidarity with victims of domestic and sexual violence. By coming out to walk, or walking on your own, you are raising awareness of the issues surrounding domestic and sexual violence and helping support the important work we do", said Michelle Meyer, executive director of Mutual Ground.

Mutual Ground relies on the generosity of the community and individuals to continue improving the lives of those who seek domestic violence and sexual assault services at their agency. And, this year, after bringing Breaking Free's services under the Mutual Ground umbrella in February of 2021, helping those struggling with addiction.

There is still time to create or join a team, or donate to a current walker by visiting www.mutualground.org. More information regarding Mutual Ground's mission and services can be found at www.mutualground.org or www.breakingfreeinc.org.
