Glenview in 60 seconds

Their work here is done

A ribbon cutting will be held at 11 a.m. May 7 to herald the completion of the stormwater improvement project in Glen Oak Acres, hosted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

People are invited to attend the ribbon cutting, which will be held on Del Ogier Drive, at the Glen Oak southern entrance east of Wagner Road.

The stormwater improvement project installed a trunk sewer ranging from 36 to 48 inches wide, along Wagner and Woodlawns roads and Del Ogier Drive. The new sewer will help about 100 homes in the area with more in-line stormwater detention and conveyance, which will address flooding. Federal funds chipped in more than $1.1 million for the project.

Book it

Outdoor Glenview Park District activities have been hugely popular and sometimes sell out quickly. That may be the case for a history hike at The Grove from 3-4 p.m. May 29.

A guided tour of The Grove's grounds and historical buildings, the hike incorporates the Native American village, the Pioneer Log Cabin, the Blacksmith's Shop and the 1856 Kennicott House. Plenty of nature views can be seen along the way.

Advance registration is required. For information, visit the park district at glenviewparks.org.

Farm Adventure

Regarding another gem in the Glenview Park District, Wagner Farm is debuting its Farm Adventure Area on May 15. A combination of playground and agricultural education exhibit, time slots for its May 15 opening already have sold out.

The Farm Adventure Area at Wagner Farm is part of a park district five-year plan for the farm created with help from public opinion. Wagner Farm currently serves more than 140,000 people annually.

Recent improvements include additional pathways and sidewalks to expand access to farm areas, new trees and planting areas, new signage, games such as bags and horse shoes, replacement of old fences, and gravel roadways to move the farm's animals and equipment.

The Farm Adventure Area received $100,000 in donations and funding from Friends of Wagner Farm and $400,000 from the combined forces of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and the Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development Grant Program.
