Fox River Grove renames village hall to honor former Mayor Robert Nunamaker

Editor's note: On Monday, April 26, the Village of Fox River Grove announced the passing of former President Robert J. Nunamaker. Any services held will be private and not open to the public.

On Tuesday, April 20, the Fox River Grove Village Board adopted a resolution to rename its village hall the Robert J. Nunamaker Village Hall.

Robert J. Nunamaker

Nunamaker led the village for 12 years, and his tenure was marked by many successes including securing the village a new train station facility, the construction of a public works facility, and investing over $500,000 in its parks, all while making the village a debt-free community.

During his time at the helm, the village also celebrated its centennial anniversary.

Perhaps the biggest focus for Nunamaker was his commitment to making the village a better place to do business.

This focus is exemplified by the addition of new businesses like Avante Banquets and Culver's Restaurant, as well as his efforts to position the village for downtown redevelopment.

Plans are underway to have this honor commemorated through the installation of lettering on the south side of the village hall, which is located at 305 Illinois St. The work should be completed in May.
