Go Fly a Kite to kick off Wheaton Park District's 100th anniversary celebration

Go Fly a Kite is a free event held in Wheaton's Graf Park that encourages the community to come out and enjoy spring and fly kites!

This year's kite event will not only kick off Wheaton Park District's year-long 100th anniversary celebration, it will look a little different.

It will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 1, at Graf Park. Use parking lots around Monroe Middle School, 1855 Manchester Road.

The first 100 families to arrive will receive a complimentary kite to fly that day or you are welcome to bring your own kite for flying. The kite flying team will be flying some fun kites for all to enjoy.

Or buy your kite in advance. Gift of Wings has generously supported this event for more than a decade.

This small family-owned shop out of Milwaukee, Wis., is led by Scott Fisher. He is passionate about kite flying and sharing the fun of it throughout the Midwest. Onsite kite sales will be available.

If you want to have your kite in advance or can't make the event this year, check out the Gift of Wings website at giftofwings.com and get your family a high-quality kite for this spring and summer.

If you want to save on shipping, you can email Gift of Wings directly and pick it up on the day of the event, May 1.

This event is free to the public and advance registration will not be required.

Stan's Donut Truck will be on-site starting at 9 a.m. A limited amount of donuts will be available for on-site purchase so you are strongly encouraged to pre-order donuts. Pre-orders will cut off at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 29, at foodtruck.pub/order/menu.aspx?busid=5068.

Due to DuPage County Health Department restrictions, Stan's Donut Truck will only be selling donuts. Beverages will not be available for on-site purchase.

For information about sponsoring this event, please contact Amy Seklecki at aseklecki@wheatonparks.org or (630) 510-4989.
