Wauconda Police partner with nonprofit to provide beds

Sleep in Heavenly Peace, along with the Wauconda Police Department, recently provided five beds to a family in need in Wauconda.

Since November 2018, the Wauconda Police Department has partnered with Sleep in Heavenly Peace to provide beds to numerous families in their community.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace is a national nonprofit organization that provides and builds beds for children who are sleeping on the floor. Dan Harris, co-president of the IL-St. Joseph/Libertyville Chapter, said the organization is about working with local communities so that "No Kid Sleeps on the Floor in our Town."

"Our town is your town," he said, adding that it's nice to work with law enforcement to provide for and serve the community.

"We do more for our community than respond to calls," Chief David Wermes said. "When officers respond to households, they are able to check on the living conditions and identify families in need of assistance. We are fortunate to be able to partner with Sleep in Heavenly Peace to support our community. Beds are a basic need, and we believe every child should have one."
