Blackhawks purchase IceHogs for $11.8 million
The Blackhawks announced Wednesday they are purchasing the American Hockey League's Rockford IceHogs for $11.8 million. The sale is subject to AHL approval and finalization of legal documentation.
The IceHogs have been the Hawks' AHL affiliate since 2007.
Also Wednesday, the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity announced a $23 million multiyear project to revitalize the BMO Harris Bank Center, home of the IceHogs. It will be funded in part by Gov. J.B. Pritzker's Rebuild Illinois $45 billion capital plan.
"It's great," said Jeremy Colliton, who was hired by GM Stan Bowman to coach the IceHogs before the 2017-18 season. "My time in Rockford was very important for me and my development. Obviously for the players, it's important as well. My family and I really enjoyed our time there and were treated extremely well.
"There's a lot of positives about the relationship we have. Obviously now, it'll be even closer. Certainly the (fact) we'll be able to upgrade conditions there is great. It's an important day for the organization."
