Anderson likely to miss Seattle series with hamstring injury

Adding insult to a failed opening series against the Angels, star White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson is injured.

Making an early exit in Sunday night's 7-4 loss, Anderson is expected to be out until at least Thursday's home opener with a strained left hamstring.

Leury Garcia replaced him at shortstop Monday night at Seattle, where the Sox opened a three-game series vs. the Mariners after losing 3 of 4 at Los Angeles.

Finishing just before 1 a.m. Tuesday, the White Sox beat Seattle 6-0.

Carlos Rodon was sharp early in his first start of the season and Yasmani Grandal gave the Sox the early edge after leading off the second inning with a home run off Mariners starter Justus Sheffield.

Anderson grounded out to second base leading off Sunday's game against the Angels. He slowed down running to first, likely preventing a much worse hamstring issue.

"Probably a couple steps before I got to the base, I kind of pulled up," Anderson said. "I probably would've beat it out if that wouldn't have happened. But it was definitely right before I got to the base. I felt it grab a little bit and I had to let up."

Anderson and the White Sox are still waiting for the results from an MRI taken Monday, but there doesn't appear to be a tear in the hamstring.

"I feel better than yesterday, so that's a positive," Anderson said. "Did a little bit of running today, felt good. So I think I'm in a good spot moving forward. It's a long season. We're still early on so I think the biggest goal is be healthy when I do get back in. Long season. I'd rather sit right now and get healthy and be there for the rest of the way."

The Sox need Anderson's bat in a lineup that has been having early trouble coming through in the clutch.

Only 1 of Sunday night's 4 runs against Los Angeles was earned and the White Sox were 0-for-11 with runners in scoring position.

"We're the same," Anderson said. "Everybody's positive, everybody's energy is still good. We're playing baseball. It isn't about how you start, it's how you finish. We're going to be all right. We're just fine."
