Remodeling wraps up at St. Charles Walmart

A Walmart Supercenter in St. Charles is celebrating a fresh coat of paint and a whole lot more.

After three months of managing to stay open during a massive remodeling project, the store at the northeast corner of Smith Road and Main Street celebrated its 28th anniversary in style with a grand reopening ceremony on Friday that attracted Mayor Ray Rogina to assist with the ribbon-cutting.

"The remodel was very smooth," said store manager Angie Gollehon, a 12-year Walmart employee who has been at the St. Charles store for two years. "We want the community and our associates to be proud of what's been done here. It's just a fresh new look that the store really needed. We're excited about it."

Gollehon credits her store team and the work of the construction contractors in making the last few months as manageable as possible for customers and employees. The work was done in several different phases, allowing the store to stay open during the entire process - including the rehabbing of 150,000 square feet of flooring.

While the footprint remains the same, customers will notice differences. There are three additional grocery aisles featuring hundreds of new items in addition to a revamped beer and wine section. The infant department was expanded and the vision center updated.

After the COVID-19 pandemic changed shopping habits, the store is updating its online pickup and delivery section to make the process easier for customers. There are new bathrooms at the front and back of the store, and a new breakroom for employees.
