Northbrook Women's Club/Foundation Holds Successful Benefit

On Saturday March 6 the Northbrook Woman's Club Foundation (NWCF) found an inspired way to hold their annual benefit that raises funds to support scholarships for local high school and college students and grants for community organizations. The Benefit Committee planned an Irish themed event with a goal of "Counting Our Blessings and Sharing Good Fortune." They used their creativity to raise money to give back to the community, while at the same time engaging local businesses. Through this benefit and other NWCF fundraisers, the organization will donate $52,000 this year. NWCF has donated over $1.3 million throughout their 65-year history.

"In this year like no other, our generous spirit did not waiver during our annual fundraising benefit. The wonderful Benefit Committee enabled members and guests to participate virtually with an interactive entertainment program. Donations, raffle ticket sales and auction items provided the revenue needed to support our Philanthropic efforts," said Janice Larson, NWCF President. "For all our 65 years, the true meanings of Friendship, Community Service and Philanthropy were never more evident this evening and over the last year. I'm so very proud of our Foundation."

It was important to the Benefit Committee to not only raise money but to also support local businesses. Francesca's North, House 406 and Trattoria Oliverii all assisted with creating dinner options for members to enjoy as part of their ticket purchase. Leonidas, Binny's, Little Louie's, Lou Malnati's and Baskin Robbins all received purchases of gift cards or other items that were included as gifts or prizes. Additional baskets for the raffle were donated by Restore Wellness, La De Da, Reds Garden Center and Sunset Foods. In total over $5,500 in sales were provided to these Northbrook businesses. Irish themed Blarney Bags filled with sweet treats from Leonidas were delivered to all that participated in the event.

"We were so happy to raise money to support our community, and also help local businesses hit hard during the pandemic. While we had hoped we could all be together for this event, the members of NWCF overwhelmed us with their support. We enjoyed preparing and delivering the Blarney Bags, so that everyone still felt like they were a part of the event," said Susan Schueler, benefit co-chair along with Laurie Shults.

The NWCF has been in existence since 1955 and the Club, and later the Foundation, have raised and donated more than $1,300,000 for college scholarships and countless grants to local service organizations.
