Watts of Love to host virtual trivia challenge April 8 with $1,000 grand prize

Watts of Love in Downers Grove is hosting its inaugural "Light the World" virtual trivia night from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 8.

One hundred percent of the proceeds will bring light to Africa in 2021. Every $1 raised through this event will go directly to bringing light to families living in the darkness of poverty and every $50 raised puts a light in the hands of a family.

Register as a team or Zoom-in alone to play six short rounds of five questions related to music, art, geography, famous inventions, or other topic centered around the theme of light.

Thanks to the generosity of the exclusive event sponsor, the UPS Foundation, the overall winning team will win a $1,000 cash prize.

In addition, one lucky winner of the Super Raffle will receive a life-changing "travel with a purpose trip" to Africa valued at $6,000 with Watts of Love. It includes airfare, luxury accommodations, African Safari, meals, and the costs of Watts of Love program.

"We are excited to launch this event of light and laughter. I hope to welcome in new supporters to the Watts of Love mission that are passionate about having fun and making a change in the world," said Nancy Economou, founder and CEO.

Virtual Trivia Events are very popular and easy to play in a gathering or remotely. "We've put on hundreds of events in these last months of change. Thousands of people have made our Trivia Mafia part of their life!," said Greg Harries of Trivia Mafia, a Minnesota-based company.

Watts of Love is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization bringing solar lights and financial learning to people living in the darkness of poverty. Nearly 1 billion people live in darkness around the globe instead relying on highly expensive and highly toxic lighting sources.

Virtual Trivia is hosted by Trivia Mafia over the Zoom platform. All teams must have access to Zoom, but teams can congregate in a home or over Zoom.

Registration fee is $30 per individual or $200 per team (maximum of 10 people per team). Team members do not need to be physically together to be on a team.

If you're registering solo, simply enter "Random "as your team name, and they will group you up with other solo trivia buffs.

All teams will be presented the questions at the same time. Teams and individuals will then be invited (a pop-up window will appear) to a Team Break Out Room to formulate and submit the team answers for that round.

The host will go over the rules, read a round of five questions, then open the rooms (you'll see a prompt to join your room at that time).

A team captain will submit the team answers via a Google doc. The game will be 6 rounds of questions and take about 2 hours, and you'll see the team standings by the end.

You can additionally support the work of Watts of Love by pledging $10 to get one Lightbulb in each round. You can enter that in place of an answer you don't know for a free point, and then donate after the event.

Registration closes on Wednesday, April 7. Sign up via EventBrite.com.
