Roselle Lions to hold holiday food drive March 27

The Roselle Lions Club will once again conduct a holiday food drive on Saturday, March 27, from noon to 3 p.m.

Nonperishable food and paper goods will be collected in the north parking lot of the Roselle United Methodist Church, 206 Rush St.

Lions members will be on hand for no contact collection of items from vehicles.

Donors will be eligible for random selection for gift cards in appreciation for the donations.

"Our food drive before Christmas exceeded our expectations. More than 7,000 items and $2,200 were collected in three hours," said Lion member Bob Jilke. "Coming before Christmas the donations were a welcome addition to the coffers of the Roselle Food Pantry. With Easter just around the corner, the Lions decided to once again increase the availability of food for persons in need."

Lion President Lucy Danner said that even though various programs have been implemented and many persons have received necessary help, the need is still great.

The club is asking interested individuals to drop off cash or checks if it is not possible for them to bring food items.

The local food banks can then purchase food through the Northern Illinois Food Bank. A one dollar donation can purchase eight dollars of food.
