For Glenview village board: DeBoni, Doron, Sidoti

When Glenview's village board is sworn in this spring, they'll have a lot of work ahead: the fate of Fire Station 13, affordable housing, development proposals for the Signode and former Hart properties, and the ongoing legal proceedings around 1850 Glenview Road, just to name a few of the matters they'll be considering.

Two-term Village President Jim Patterson is stepping down, and trustee Mike Jenny, whose term isn't up until 2023, is running unopposed for his seat. Of course, Jenny will have to find someone to finish out his own term.

Because trustees John Hinkamp, Deborah Karton and Karim Khoja all chose not to run for reelection, there will be at least three new faces on the board, and there are six candidates on the ballot in April vying for those spots:

Jenny heads the Unite Glenview slate, which also includes Gina DeBoni, managing partner of a Chicago law firm; Tim Doron, a traffic consultant; and Adam Sidoti, an attorney and a vice president of sales and legal operations.

The opposing slate, Glenview Next, is Paul Brancky, a business development consultant for a software and analytics firm serving the food service and hospitality industry; Sheri Latash, a retired teacher and agriculture literacy educator; and Cathy Wilson, who works in education, marketing and technology.

While all six are excellent candidates, we think Unite Glenview has the edge here.

Sidoti and DeBoni bring youth to the board, but that's not all. DeBoni has successfully managed her law firm's business during the coronavirus pandemic, which would transfer well to handling village business. Sidoti has been outspoken and closely involved in the issues surrounding the Willow and Pfingsten development, as he lives nearby. Both are also attorneys, which will certainly be helpful toward a goal of all six candidates: Finding ways to communicate village matters more clearly with residents to encourage participation rather than just handing over agenda packets full of 200-page legal documents.

Doron is a traffic consultant with broad public planning experience and many years volunteering on Glenview plan commission, Glen redevelopment commission and downtown redevelopment commission. With the village facing complex development issues, his knowledge will be invaluable - especially when one of the major issues around the Willow/Pfingsten development is, indeed, how it would affect traffic.

That said, as all candidates have acknowledged communication and transparency as problems for Glenview over the years, Jenny, as a trustee, bears at least some responsibility for that.

We hope that he has learned from his experience so far and that, during his village presidency, trustees will hold him to his promise of a transparent administration.

DeBoni, Doron and Sidoti are endorsed.
