Signal Hill Chapter, NSDAR, Announces Good Citizen Award Winner

The Barrington-based Signal Hill Chapter, NSDAR, has awarded Madeleine Lawler, a senior from Lake Zurich High School, its 2020-2021 Good Citizen Award. Madeleine competed in the chapter's essay contest and was awarded a $1,000 scholarship for her winning essay on "Our American Heritage and Our Responsibility for Preserving It." When asked how the combined actions of good citizens can keep our nation moving forward, her essay focused on the fact that "every citizen can choose to be a piece in the puzzle of American progress."

Madeleine has held a 4.82 GPA, taking several AP classes. She is active in the school theater, choir, and orchestra programs, and serves as the current President of the school's National Honor Society chapter. She has written for the school online and print newspaper, "Bear Facts" and was the website editor in chief. Madeleine has logged over 1,000 volunteer hours during high school, including designing and managing a recycling program for contact lenses. She plans to attend a 4-year university following high school and will study Finance/International Business.

The Signal Hill Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) was founded in Barrington, IL in 1972. NSDAR is a volunteer women's service organization headquartered in Washington, DC. Since its founding in 1890 over one million women have joined both nationally and around the world. The local Barrington Chapter raises funds throughout the year and distributes them to 501 (c) (3) organizations whose missions support that of NSDAR: historic preservation, education, and patriotism.
