St. Charles reopens city buildings to public

St. Charles officials announced Monday that city buildings will reopen to the public effective immediately after being closed for months because of COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.

The decision comes after Region 8 of the state, which includes Kane County, moved into Phase 4 of the Restore Illinois plan. In addition to buildings reopening, in-person public meetings will resume at the city's Municipal Building at 2 East Main St. with certain restrictions, including a mask requirement.

City buildings will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. during the week. Residents can pay utility bills and submit building permits and applications. The public works service counter also will be open to the public.

Other returning services include fingerprinting for licensing and city-related requirements, and prescription drug disposal. Meeting room reservations, police station tours and child safety seat checks are among the services that remain suspended.
