Lucroy reportedly signs minor-league deal with White Sox
Jonathan Lucroy, an 11-year veteran, reportedly agreed to a minor-league contract with the White Sox on Thursday.
The 34-year-old catcher is viewed as insurance as a backup to Yasmani Grandal.
Lucroy played in only a game for the Red Sox last season before being designated for assignment. A two-time all star, he spent part of the 2019 season with the Cubs and has also played for the Angels, A's, Rockies, Rangers and Brewers.
A career .274/.335/.416 hitter with 108 home runs and 545 RBI, Lucroy is likely going to compete with Zack Collins, Yermin Mercedes and Seby Zavala for the White Sox's No. 2 catching job.
James McCann filled that role last season before exiting as a free agent and signing with the Mets for $40 million over four years.
