Letter to the editor: Jenny's denunciation of Bess site protesters is unfair

Residents hold the village "hostage" by opposing The Drake Group project on the former Bess Hardware site?

Those opponents of the development undermine the village by suing to stop the five-story, 68-unit rental structure?

Here is how Trustee Michael Jenny described them at the Jan. 5 village board meeting: "A small group of people are essentially holding the rest of the community hostage through the court system. They stoke grievances and perpetuate attacks, conspiracy theories and more, which undermines those who come before the Village Board in good faith ..."

In other words: residents are not allowed to contest this decision. In Glenview, we used to call them citizens pursuing their constitutional right to challenge the government.

Does Jenny's sweeping denunciation apply to other "conspirators" - the more than 1,000 who signed a public petition against the project - and many who testified against it in public?

How about the two trustees who voted against the Drake project?

Jenny and others who live far from the site claim a "silent majority" favors Drake.

Jenny's criticism follows his nomination by the incumbent "unite" party, presumably without conspirators, as its candidate for president in the April 6 election. He is unopposed and will be the next leader of the village board.

He is on the way to become one of the longest-serving members of the board. He was elected trustee in 2011, serving 10 years so far, with at least four more to be tacked on. Jenny will succeed James Patterson, trustee from 2003 to 2011, and village president from 2013 to 2021. Sixteen years.

I served 10 years as a Trustee years ago and stepped down with thanks to voters and to give others a chance to serve.
