Hangar Two set for takeoff in Glenview

Good news in the restaurant industry has been slim in recent months, but perhaps a new Glenview opening will reverse the course.

Tangled Roots Brewing Company's new Hangar Two brewpub celebrated a ribbon cutting and private opening celebration on Wednesday.

Inspired by the former Glenview Naval Airbase, Hangar Two, 1100 N. Milwaukee Ave., is in the Abt Design Center space where Jolane's operated for 12 years until closing in May 2020.

General manager Suzy Breden and executive chef Jose Guerrero are key personnel who remain from the staff of Jolane's.

Matt Scholes, chief marketing officer of Tangled Roots' parent company CL Enterprises, said in a phone conversation that the Tangled Roots team worked with the Hangar One Foundation to "capture parts" of the area's history, integrated into the restaurant's design.

He said CL Enterprises sees "tremendous potential" in investing in communities outside large urban centers.

"It's a celebration of the history," Scholes said of Hangar Two. "We're not trying to be a museum, but when you go there you'll get a sense of the air base and the history of Glenview."

Hangar Two will offer an eclectic variety of select fish and steak entrees, burgers and sandwiches, appetizers, soups, salads and desserts. Many of the items on the menu come with suggested pairings from the restaurant's selection of craft beers. There is also a menu for children 10 and younger.

Tangled Roots prides itself on its beer, made with hops and barley grown on Tangled Roots' own farm in Ottawa.

"You won't find a beer that's more 'Illinois' than our Farm to Foam beer," Scholes said.

Still, he said one needn't be a craft beer aficionado to enjoy Tangled Roots' creations.

"Our goal is to try and create a fantastic craft experience, with beer at the center, but in a way that is very accessible," he said.

This will be the third location in the Tangled Roots Brewing Company family. The initial location, The Lone Buffalo, was established in Ottawa in 2016. The Lock and Mule is expected to open in South suburban Lockport this month.
