Hawks' Seabrook still not ready to get on the ice

Stan Bowman said that veteran defenseman Brent Seabrook "is making progress" but is still not able to get back on the ice.

Seabrook has yet to take part in training camp, which began Jan. 4. He will not accompany the team on their season-opening road trip to Tampa Bay and Florida.

Once Seabrook is able to skate, Bowman believes it will take "at least a couple of weeks" for him to be game ready. Bowman would not speculate as to Seabrook's role and/or how difficult it will be to find him a spot on a crowded blue line.

"Look at how much has changed with the last two weeks with us with guys getting injured," Bowman said. "You take that as it comes."

Meanwhile, center Carl Soderberg got his visa, traveled to Chicago and has begun his quarantine. It's possible he could play in the Hawks' home opener Jan. 22 against Detroit.

Roster moves:

The Hawks assigned forward John Quenneville, defensemen Anton Lindholm and Nick Seeler and goaltender Matt Tomkins to the Rockford IceHogs. They also placed forward Alex Nylander (left knee) on long-term injured reserve and forward Zack Smith (back) on injured reserve.
