Report: Bears' Kelly interviewing for two GM jobs
Bears assistant director of player personnel Champ Kelly is interviewing for at least two open general manager positions, according to a report from the NFL Network.
Kelly will interview with the Denver Broncos and the Carolina Panthers.
Kelly has worked for the Bears since 2015, first as director of pro scouting and in his current role since 2017. He has a long history with the Broncos, where he worked in various front office roles from 2007 to 2014.
Broncos general manager John Elway is changing his position into a president of football operations role and hiring a new GM. Kelly worked under Elway during his time in Denver, and is also familiar with Broncos head coach Vic Fangio, the Bears' defensive coordinator from 2015 to 2018.
In his current role, Kelly works with Bears director of player personnel Josh Lucas and college scouting director Mark Sadowski in directing the Bears' pro and college scouting departments, according to the team.
In his previous role as director of pro scouting, Kelly oversaw all pro player evaluations, free agency and evaluated talent in other pro leagues like the Canadian Football League and the Arena Football League.
A Campbellton, Fla., native, Kelly played college football at Kentucky from 1998 to 2001 and later played professionally in the United Indoor Football league. He started his career in the NFL as a college scout with the Broncos in 2007.
