Mount Prospect announces decorating contest winners

The Mount Prospect Special Events Commission has announced the winners of the 2020 Holiday Decorating Contest:

• Best Decorated Business: Los Compadres, 1801 W. Algonquin Road

• Best Decorated Block: 400 block of South Pine

• Simple But Elegant: 209 S. Candota Ave.

• Griswald Family House Award: 1110 E. Alder

• Most Festive: 1406 Lama

• Most Spiritual: 905 S. I-Oka

• Grand Prize winner - top vote winner on Facebook: 111 S. I-Oka

• Grand Prize nominees: 315 S. Louis St.; 710 W. Busse Ave.; 307 Man-a-wa; 1415 Sauk Lane

Holiday Decorating Contest winners are chosen by a team of Special Events Commission members who travel throughout the village looking for those special decorations.

All residents and businesses had to do was have their lights on to be considered for the contest.

This year, the commission invited residents to vote on the Grand Prize winning house via Facebook.

"The Special Events Commission is excited to change things up this year and have the village residents participate in selecting the Grand Prize winner," said event coordinator Haley Schecter.

"This event encourages everyone to participate in a fun activity in a safe but still festive manner."
