Two construction workers hurt in Westmont building collapse

Two construction workers in Westmont were hospitalized after a building partially collapsed on them Monday, officials said.

About 12:30 p.m., a new building under construction on the southwest corner of Cass Avenue and Quincy Street partially collapsed on two workers, according to a statement from the village of Westmont.

The two workers were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove with critical but nonlife-threatening injuries. Officials have not provided additional information on their condition.

Due to the collapse, Cass Avenue between Burlington Avenue and Richmond Street as well as westbound traffic on East Quincy Street have been shut down for the foreseeable future, officials said.
