Streamwood home severely damaged by fire

Streamwood fire investigators are trying to determine what sparked a Thursday morning house fire that caused an estimated $100,000 in damages.

Firefighters responded at 9:44 a.m. to the report of a car fire in the 700 block of Oltendorf Road. Authorities were told the vehicle wasn't close to any structures.

But when emergency crews arrived at the scene, they found the car was on fire several feet from a two-story home. Flames had already spread into the living space, officials said in a statement.

The residents of the home had already evacuated and no one was injured. The fire was extinguished but damage to the home was significant, officials said.

Firefighters from Bartlett, Hanover Park, Hoffman Estates and East Dundee assisted Streamwood at the scene. South Elgin and Carpentersville firefighters provided fire station coverage.
