A couple reminders from state Sen. Fine
State Sen. Laura Fine (D-Glenview) wants to remind folks of a couple things.
One, under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, homeowners with a federally backed mortgage who have been affected by COVID-19 may be eligible for up to one year of deferred payments. For information, call Chicago Volunteer Legal Services at (312) 332-8785 or visit cvls.org.
Two, she chief co-sponsored a bill passed by the Illinois General Assembly in November 2019 that could help some people starting in January.
The new law will cap out-of-pocket costs at $100 dollars for a 30-day supply of insulin for people on a state-regulated insurance plan. The law takes effect on Jan. 1.
The new law also requires the departments of insurance, health services, health care and family services to issue an insulin pricing report that details findings on insulin pricing practices and recommendations to control and prevent overpricing of prescription insulin drugs, according to a release out of Fine's office. Between 2009-17, the release stated, the price of insulin nearly tripled.
Illinois will become the second state to cap out-of-pocket insulin costs at $100 a month for all patients under a state-regulated insurance plan, regardless of the amount they require.
Identity theft totals
Capped by the nine cases for the period of Dec. 14-20, according to the Northfield Police Department to date the department has had 75 identity theft cases related to unauthorized attempt to file for unemployment benefits through the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES).
