Carpenters union builds rocking chair for 9-year-old Wheaton resident

Apprentices from the Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters this week had the honor of building and delivering a union-made rocking chair to 9-year-old Charlie Castino of Wheaton.

Charlie is a patient at Lurie Children's Hospital who was diagnosed with Moyamoya disease, a rare cerebrovascular disorder.

The Carpenter's union built the chair through a partnership with its neighbor Lurie Children's and was thrilled to find out that Charlie would be the recipient.

Charlie and his mother, Jennifer, expressed their gratitude when the union dropped off the chair right before Christmas.

"Our apprentices were so happy they got to build this chair for our new friend, Charlie," said Gary Perinar, executive secretary-treasurer of the Chicago Regional Council. "We love to give back to our communities and we look forward to giving Charlie a tour of our training facility and the shop where the chair was made once things get back to normal."
