Vernon Township is helping 125 less fortunate families during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday season through its "Adopt A Family Program."

Operating for two decades, the "Adopt A Family Program" is run through the Vernon Township food pantry and administered by township staff. The 125 families being helped is up from 100 in previous years.

"We are hoping that this holiday program can bring greater joy to families in need," said Vernon Township board Supervisor Jonathan Altenberg.

"Donors are anonymously matched with families and provide Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets that include a meal, decorations, household items, clothing and children's toys."

Vernon Township provides services to residents in all or portions of the villages of Buffalo Grove, Indian Creek, Lincolnshire, Long Grove, Mettawa, Mundelein, Riverwoods, Vernon Hills, the city of Lake Forest, and unincorporated Vernon Township.
