'Not forgotten': Veterans receive holiday meals in Schaumburg

The Rotary Club of Schaumburg and Hoffman Estates joined forces Sunday with the Trickster Cultural Center to give meals to veterans for the holidays.

Rotarians and the Native American cultural center offered more than 200 free and prepackaged meals for veterans and their families during a drive-through distribution at Chandler's Chophouse & Grille in Schaumburg. Organizers also arranged deliveries for seniors or homebound veterans.

Many of the volunteers were veterans helping fellow veterans.

"It lets them know they are not forgotten. There are veterans that need our help," said Marco Dabetic, an event organizer who served in the Marines during the Vietnam War.

The effort lasted about an hour and a half Sunday.
