OBITUARY: MARSHALL CARL 'MARSH' MUSSAY, 96, OF GLENVIEW
A member of "The Greatest Generation" and one of the greatest guys anyone could ever meet, Marshall Carl "Marsh" Mussay, of Glenview, died December 10 at JourneyCare Hospice in Glenview. He was 96, just weeks shy of his 97th birthday.
On January 13, 1924, Marsh was born to Carl and Elizabeth (Kozlowski) Mussay, Eastern European immigrants settled in Chicago's Belmont-Cragin neighborhood. Educated in the Chicago Public Schools, he graduated from Steinmetz High School in 1942. In March of 1943 year he was inducted into the United States Army and received his training with the 69th Infantry Division before serving in Belgium, France, and Germany. Upon his return from World War II in March of 1946, he enrolled in the University of Illinois, graduating in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering. On August 2, 1952, Marsh married June Branding of Granite City, Illinois. After working for the Container Corporation of America and DoAll sawing products, Marsh moved to the E. L. Essley Machinery Company and made his career in selling machine tools. When the Essley Company was sold in 1987, he continued to help run it before forming his own business, MCM Machinery, which he headed until retirement.
Marsh was a faithful member of Glenview Community Church, where he served on the usher team for 50 years, and of the American Legion, Joseph M. Sesterhenn Post 166. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Janet; a brother, Donald Mussay; and a sister, Virginia Grizzaffi.
Marsh is survived by his wife of 68 years, June; daughters Jill (Allan) Ruter of Glenview and Judy (Mark) McDonald of Spring Hill, KS; and sons Jeffrey (Pam Collins) of Chicago and Michael (Antoinette) of Grayslake. He also leaves behind a devoted legion of 12 grandchildren.
A private funeral will be held on Sunday, December 20 at Glenview Community Church, followed by military rites.
